A deliciously told group biography of the young, rich, American heiresses who married into the impoverished British aristocracy at the turn of the twentieth century – the real women who inspired Downton Abbey Towards the end of the nineteenth century and for the first few years of the twentieth, a strange invasion took place in Britain/5().   Husband Hunters is such a great book with fascinating main characters who have real emotional issues to battle with, a great cast of secondary characters to support them, and quite a few observations and criticisms about todays fascination with reality TV. Which, of course, reflects anything other than reality/5. The Husband Hunt (Sonnet Books) - Kindle edition by Hunter, Jillian. The Husband Hunters, written by Anne de Courcy is a fascinating look how American and British culture shaped The Gilded Age () and how the young daughters from prestigious wealthy American families married into the elite English aristocratic class/5. I am purely rating this book as it fits in the series. NOT as a stand alone book. This book was the best of the series. There was only 2 pages explaining the last 2 books instead of a 1/2 repeat like the second. I did not find myself skipping pages like I did in the other books. Lisa is /5. It was less about the husband hunters than their families and background; the new element (at least to me) was the fascinating information on American social mores – money and ostentation driven as it was. The book flitted about quite distractingly – a criticism I have seen of some of her other books, but never noticed or been bothered by/5(78). One whose business it is to cultivate the ground. It was one of the first occupations, and was esteemed most honourable (Genesis ; , 14; , etc.).All the Hebrews, except those engaged in religious services, were husbandmen.
